Semi Finalists Emerge At Aibak Polo Cup

There are many polo tournaments that are over in just a matter of days, but over in Pakistan, a two-week tournament – almost half the length of the 2022 football World Cup – has now reached the semi-final stage.

The Aibak Polo Cup, which is held in Lahore, is always a big event and the latest teams still in with a chance of glory are Remounts, who emerged from Zone D, and Zone B qualifiers Diamond Pants.

On Sunday 20th November the day began with Master Black Pants beating Guard Rice 9-6½, with Manual Carranza proving the star with six goals. However, Remounts enjoyed an even better win with a by 10-4½ over Salam Polo, with Raja Temur Nadeem scoring six goals of his own and Shazad scoring four.

There was a much tighter game when Diamond Pants squeezed past Platinum Homes by 3-2½ to secure their advance from the group stage.

Each day of the tournament features three games and some of the very highest quality action in the country, providing a reminder once again of what a global sport Polo is.

While much of Asia will be focusing on the first football World Cup to be played in the Middle East and many people in Pakistan will be paying most interest to cricket with a tour by England coming up, polo remains highly popular in the country.

The Aibak Polo Cup is one of the more established tournaments in Pakistan, with this being the 46th edition of the tournament.

Reading news of tournaments overseas may get fans in Britain longing for the return of outdoor polo here, with many exciting tournaments set for next spring and summer. However, there are also many arena tournaments to look forward to indoors during the winter.

Upcoming events include the Christmas Cup in December and the HPA Club National Championships in the New Year.
