Southern Command Polo Cup Sees Thrilling Decider

The deciding match in India’s Amateur Riders’ Club Southern Command Polo Championship turned out to be thriller, with the ASC Piramal Team squeezed home 6-5 against the Dynamix Achievers.

ASC Piramal were under the cosh in the first chakkar, but came back strongly in the following two to win the trophy in a see-saw encounter at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, the Free Press Journal reports.

While Piramal won the match, the player drawing the most attention was Dynamix Achievers star Daniel Otamendi. The Argentinean fell off his horse early in the contest during a defensive phase, causing the game to be halted. Despite this, he was able to resume and later scored twice.

However, Otamendi was upstaged by Lt. Col Vishal Chauhan, who overcome a hand injury during the game to score a hat-trick and win the man-of-the-match award.

Elsewhere in India, Artillery Club Nashik and the Amateur Riders’ Club (ARC) shared the ARTY Cup after a 3-3 draw at the Mumbai Polo Club.  ARC skipper Sunny Patel scored all three of his side’s goals.

The latest results from India may whet the appetite for British fans waiting for warmer weather and an easing of lockdown restrictions to see some action over here.

Events planned for the summer include Polo in the Park at Hurlingham in west London in June.

Indeed, those who fancy taking up a new sport as vaccinations take effect and lockdowns ease may find 2021 a great time to get some polo lessons, as there will no doubt be many others thinking the same way who will be keen to learn the sport from scratch, or revive their interest after playing it in the past.

Whether it is your first time playing the sport or you want to take your skills to the next level, at Menard Polo we can offer lessons to help you raise your game.
