The British Open Polo Championships came to an end earlier this week, resulting in Park Place defeating the Dubai Polo Team to lift the Cowdray Gold Cup.
On Sunday (July 17th), the final event of the tournament took place on the Lawns Polo Grounds at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
Thousands of people descended on the venue to watch the two sides battle it out for the coveted title.
By the end of the match, Park Place managed to beat the previously undefeated Dubai Polo Team by 12 to nine after Facundo Pieres scored a goal in the final seconds.
“Cries of joy could be heard from the Park Place team tent as a crowd surrounded the presentation area. With both the teams at the podium, The Hon Emily Pearson, daughter of Lord Cowdray, presented the glittering Gold Cup trophy to Park Place team captain, Facundo Pieres and patron, Andrey Borodin,” Cowdray Polo released in a statement.
Francisco Elizalde won the most valuable player award, while the Robert Graham Umpires trophy was given to Julian Appleby and Peter Wright.
Van Nikita won the best playing pony accolade, and the best playing patron pony was handed to Open Sting on behalf of King Power.
While the game finished in the afternoon, celebrations continued into the evening, with DJ Simon Horn entertaining the crowds, as they kept The Goalmouth Bar busy.
Cowdray Park will also host other prestigious events over the summer, including the Lodsworth Village Cup between August 2nd and 14th, the Brecknock Cup between August 2nd and 21st, and the Selham Trophy between August 25th and 29th.
