GB Wins Bronze At FEI World Equestrian Championships

Great Britain is going from strength to strength in equestrian sports these days, and its show-jumping team has recently been awarded a bronze medal at the FEI World Equestrian Championship

Ben Maher, Scott Brash, Harry Charles and Joe Stockdale were given the accolade at the competition, which took place in Herning, Denmark, earlier this month, BBC News reported.

This marked the fifth bronze medal for GB at the event, with Lee Pearson, Georgia Wilson, Natasha Baker and Sophie Wells also been given third place on the podium for para-equestrian dressage.

GB’s team were in sixth position before the second round of the jumping contest. However, Charles, son of Peter Charles, who won gold in equestrian jumping at the 2012 Olympic Games, managed to jump a perfect clear on Romeo 88. Consequently, GB were able to achieve third position.

This also meant they have qualified for the Paris Olympics, along with Ireland’s team, which came in fourth.

Brash and Maher were also winners at the 2012 Olympics, taking the first equestrian team show-jumping gold medal in 60 years with Peter Charles and Nick Skelton. They now join Charles’ son for competitions, while both progressed to the individual final last Sunday (August 14th).

Although they did not win a place on the podium for their individual competitions, members of the GB equestrian team managed to score four silver medals and two gold ones at the Championships.

Charlotte Fry received both the gold medals for dressage.
