Prince Harry Plays Starring Role In Polo Tournament

Prince Harry might have given up many of the routines and features of his royal life, but the family’s love of all things horses remains present as he turned in a starring performance in a charity tournament.

The Duke of Sussex and his Sentebale team mates enjoyed a second successive tournament victory in the ISPS Handa Polo Cup in Aspen, Colorado, with the prince producing what some called a “superstar” display.

Sentebale is named after a charity Harry established to support young people in Lesotho and Botswana and the team managed both to raise money and lift the trophy by beating US Polo Association 4-2 and Royal Salute 3-2.

Harry scored a hat-trick in his opening match and another goal in the second as he inspired his team to the victories that would win the round-robin tournament.

Other team members include Harry’s friend and Argentinian star Nacho Figueras. Speaking to reporters at the event, Figueras said: “Being able to be here playing a sport that we love and that we share together as friends and teammates, while supporting a great cause like Sentebale, it’s a great thing.”

While Prince Harry played a starring role in the blue and white colours, many polo aficionados will have noted the role played by his horse, seven-year-old chestnut mare Levita. She was named the best playing pony in the competition.

Of course, Harry is seldom out of the news. But his polo exploits stand for themselves as he continues to turn in fine performances in the presence of high-calibre teams and players.

Not that he has always enjoyed the best of fortunes while paying; earlier this year the Duke took a nasty tumble when he fell from his horse shortly after returning to the US following the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Thankfully, he was not badly hurt and was soon literally back in the saddle.
